Professional command

Experience earned on the water and in the classroom.

Captain Rorke Miller has spent nearly three decades teaching people to handle boats with confidence, understand how their vessels work, and respond effectively when conditions change.

He works with first-time sailors, experienced owners, charter crews, professional mariners, and other instructors. His style is practical and direct: explain the reason, demonstrate the work, then give people room to develop confidence through doing.

Two St. Francis catamarans

From the Indian Ocean to the Great Lakes.

Paradigm Shift is Rorke’s second St. Francis catamaran, giving him uncommon familiarity with the design as both a bluewater sailor and an instructor.

Aboard his first St. Francis, S/V Wanda Rose, Rorke sailed from the Indian Ocean off South Africa, across the Atlantic, through the Erie Canal to the furthest shores in Lake Superior…and back out to the Caribbean.

Clients who joined that voyage learned ocean-passage planning, inland navigation, weather judgment, maintenance, and the daily realities of living aboard.

A career of command and instruction

From first-time sailors to professional captains.

Rorke began training sailing instructors in 1999. He later served as master of a tall ship and led a nonprofit youth sail-training program. For 13 years, he taught and examined candidates in US Coast Guard–approved captain’s-license programs.

As a Master Instructor for both American Sailing and American Boating, Rorke has completed advanced instructor-development training and is approved to conduct Instructor Qualification Clinics and train other sailing instructors. He is also a US Sailing and US Powerboating instructor and an American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, and AED instructor.

The credentials matter. What guests notice is how naturally the knowledge is shared—clearly, patiently, and at the level that suits the person in front of him.
